"Metal Judgement" (USA) Review:

Band Name: Eternal Silence
Demo Title: The Dawning of Chaos

Review by Savage:

I recently had the opportunity to see a local death metal band called Eternal Silence. After a year of being told by their fans to check these guys out, I finally got off my ass and did so. As most of the readers here have gathered from my previous reviews, I'm not the biggest fan of death metal. I love the music but cannot get past the cookie monster vocals. I will admit that writing for Metal Judgment has slowly opened my eyes and ears and I have begun to embrace this genre wholeheartedly!
Borrowing from their bio at http://www.eternaldeath.com/band.html, here is some necessary info:
"Eternal Silence was formed in late 1996 with the intent of writing a straight-forward original style of death metal. In 1998, the four members (Jim Flynn-Guitar & Vocals; Keith Dorn-Guitar & Vocals; Wade Prelesnik-Drums; and John Hill-Bass & Vocals) completed their demo. The CD, entitled Before My Eyes, was circulated world wide and sold a significant number of copies.

The band is based out of New London, WI and has played many venues in Wisconsin and Illinois. They performed live with bands such as Disinter, Morta Skuld, Experiment Fear, and Midian to name a few. With much positive crowd response, a fan following quickly emerged. Within a short time the band was out playing shows with Jungle Rot, Fleshgrind, Dumah, Fetal Pulp, Hell on Earth, Summon, D.O.T.A.C., Under Threat, Gorgasm, Monstrosity, Divine Empire, and many, many others."
*They have played at the famed Milwaukee Metalfest too!

Now on to the music:
Eternal Silence attacks your mind, body and soul with pure unadulterated old school death metal. This shit is very brutal and not for the faint of heart! The standard cliches apply here in the form of machinegun fast drumming loaded with plenty of double bass, speed metal riffing with several haunting melodic breaks, which is evident on "Global Castration" and of course, cookie monster vocals that alternate between deep satanic growls and higher shrieks that could burst the veins in your head!

This is the sort of music that if played in a candlelit room would evoke some very scary images, not to mention the nightmares it is sure to cause once you close your eyes! Wade's drumming is some of the fastest I've heard since the 80s, especially on "Left to Die." Dare I say it reminds me of Dave Lombardo on Slayer's Reign in Blood! The guitars on "Fading Inside" would fit nicely on Seasons in the Abyss. The final track, "Consumed by Darkness," is an all out windmilling opportunity for those of you that still have hair down to your ass!

Overall, Eternal Silence brings together elements of death metal that were lost at the end of the 80s as they forge ahead into the future, one that looks brighter, or should I say darker, everyday. ES is keeping the flame alive in the form of "PURE FUCKING HATE" as their website so delicately puts it!
